What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of connective tissue and muscles throughout the body. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?
It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle, connective tissue and fascia. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. This massage help to reduce chronic muscular pain, facilitate injury rehabilitation, and decrease inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. Deep Tissue Massage can help with:
Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
Muscle tension or spasm
Deep Tissue does NOT Mean Pain
Deep tissue can get a bad reputation of being a painful type of massage where the therapist digs into your muscles while applying an uncomfortable amount of pressure. While this type of massage can be deeper and more intense than other modalities, a good deep tissue massage shouldn’t be painful or leave you feeling really sore.
